Many people are optimistic about Netflix, thinking it will always be the leader in streaming media. But I have an opposite view. Generative AI is fundamentally changing how ordinary people access video content. In the future, everyone will be able to easily create their own short clips, stories, and film segments. Entertainment time will be continuously divided among countless AI-generated contents. Netflix’s business model, which relies on expensive long-form series production to attract subscribers, will face huge challenges in the long run. Even if Netflix uses AI to cut costs, it cannot change the major trend of user attention being taken away by a large amount of AI content. The changes might not be obvious in the short term, but over a longer period, its growth ceiling is getting closer and closer. I remain bearish on Netflix.
