What is cryptocurrency?
Solana is een layer 1 blockchain en smart-contractplatform ontworpen om schaalbaarheid prioriteit te geven zonder afbreuk te doen aan beveiliging of decentralisatie. Opgericht in 2017 door Anatoly Yakovenko, een ex-Dropbox ingenieur, heeft Solana een van de snelst groeiende crypto-ecosystemen met toepassing door ontwikkelaars en algemene interesse vanwege de hoge transactiesnelheden.
Op dit moment claimt de Solana-blockchain meer dan 50.000 transacties per seconde te bereiken met lage kosten. Dit wordt mogelijk gemaakt door de schaaloplossing, een cryptografische klok genaamd Proof-of-History (PoH) gecombineerd met het Proof-of-Stake consensusmechanisme.
Met PoH kunnen nodes in het Solana-netwerk de tijd en volgorde van gebeurtenissen bepalen door middel van een SHA-256 verifieerbare vertragingsfunctie die is opgeslagen in het grootboek. Elke validator houdt zijn eigen klok bij en genereert gehashte cryptografische tijdstempels, waardoor het niet nodig is om met andere nodes te praten om gebeurtenissen te verifiëren. Dit maakt de Solana-blockchain zeer efficiënt en klaar voor schaalbare groei.
